A specially engraved Colt 1911, featured as a 2011 SHOT Show auction gun, is receiving extraordinary attention on Gunbroker.com with more than 105,000 views driving bidding past $80,000 with nearly three weeks remaining in the popular online auction.
The special Colt 1911features superb factory engraving, unique Ivory grips and other features to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the U.S. Army's approval of the 1911 as the official military sidearm.
The gun features a prominent and powerful hand inlaid gold inscription, "100 YEARS AT AMERICA'S SIDE" and a gold-inlaid
Rampant Colt. It also features large gold inlays including "1911-2011" and the serpentine "Colt". In addition, the unique serial number "1911COLT 2011" is hand-engraved and inlaid with gold.
"I was considering a second mortgage on my house so that I could bid on this gun, but now I'm not sure a second mortgage on my house would yield enough." commented a Colt executive who asked to remain anonymous. "This is both a historic and a beautiful firearm and we are extremely gratified by the early bidding on GunBroker.com".
All engraving work is by Colt Custom Shop Master Engravers, Steve Kamyk and George Spring. Engraving style is American Scroll with "B" (50%) coverage. The gun also includes specially designed ivory grips with gold-plated Colt 1911 Anniversary Medallions.
As a bonus, the high bidder will be invited to a VIP tour of the Colt Factory in Hartford, Connecticut on March 29, 2011-the official 100th Anniversary of the U.S. Army's approval of the 1911 as the U.S. Army sidearm.
The SHOT Show Colt will be displayed in the Colt Booth at the SHOT Show, Booth # 12562.
