The park visitor got to within 10 feet of the bison before it attacked
A 25-year-old Ohio woman visiting Yellowstone National Park was gored and thrown 10 feet into the air by a bison.
According to CBS News, the bison, which was walking near a boardwalk at Black Sand Basin, north of Old Faithful, attacked the woman when she and two other people approached to within 10 feet of it. She sustained a puncture wound and other injuries.
Park emergency medical providers took her to a hospital in Idaho via ambulance.
According to park officials, this is the first reported bison goring this year. A park statement says bison, which can run three times faster than humans, have injured more people in Yellowstone than any other animal.
Per park regulations, visitors must keep a 25-yard distance from bison.
