Curious Bear Gets Up Close and Personal With Hikers

The women remained calm during the encounter and one of them even took a selfie

A group of women were hiking through an ecological park in Mexico when a curious wild bear approached and began pawing at one of them.

Video footage shows a medium-sized bear sniffing a woman and even placing its front paws on her shoulders as it licks her hair. You can then see the woman raise her phone to take a selfie, which was a risky move, as black bears can be very dangerous. Fortunately for the women, this bear just seemed curious.

The hikers remained mostly still as the bear closely examined them and then walked away. The video of the encounter was posted on Twitter, where it has received thousands of views.

Experts told Mexico Daily News that during certain times of the year, bear sightings aren’t unusual in Chipinque Ecological Park, which is part of the Cumbres de Monterrey National Park in the Sierra Madre Mountains. The bears, which are considered an endangered species in Mexico, move down from the mountains in search of food and water.
