Wildlife officers shot and killed two of the wild canines near the site of the attack
The terrifying moment a coyote attacked a toddler near California’s Huntington Beach Pier was caught on camera.
According to Foxla.com, two women and two children were enjoying some time on the beach Thursday, April 28, when a coyote appeared and attacked the 2-year-old girl.
The coyote knocked over the girl and attacked her for 12 seconds before one of the adults turned around and the animal ran off.
The girl was then taken by ambulance to the hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
Police later shot two coyotes. One was found dead on the beach about a mile north of the pier the next morning; the other was located under a mobile home and euthanized.
The coyotes are being tested for rabies.
Runners told Foxla.com they have been chased by coyotes in the area, and police confirmed there have been numerous reports of recent sightings.
“On several occasions, they’ve chased both myself and my wife down the road,” resident Eric Brown said.
