You never know what you're going to see when you're hunting from your treestand. You can tell by the shaky and erratic video footage taken by hunter Derek Leep of Indiana that he was certainly not expecting to see a bobcat attack a deer right beneath his stand.
In the YouTube video description, Leep said he spotted the bobcat to his left and then the button buck stepped out behind him. "What happens next will shock you," Leep wrote. It certainly does, and it obviously shocked Leep, too.
Bobcats are known for mostly hunting smaller animals, like rabbits, mice, and other varmints, but large bobcats will occasionally take down an adult deer.
I've reached out Leep to find out if the bobcat managed to kill the deer but have not received a response yet. I will update this post if and when I find out.
By the way, on his Facebook page, Leep says the object that fell from the tree from where the bobcat lept was a dead limb. To some viewers it looked like a deer's carcass, but it was not.
Have you ever seen a bobcat attack a deer?
