The Realblog's Top 10 Craziest Animal Encounters

It's wild out there, and The Realblog has the stories to prove it. As the blog's editor, I've spent the last eight years sharing with you stories of unbelievable animal encounters, and there have been some doozies. I've compiled some of the most remarkable ones for this top 10 countdown. No surprise, bears are responsible for many of these uncanny confrontations, but not all of them. Deer, coyotes, raccoons and snakes also make an appearance on this wild and woolly list.

No. 10: Man Stabs Black Bear to Death as It Mauls Him

His friends thought he was dead, but Brandon Johnson not only survived an attack by a 525-pound bear, he managed to stab it to death as it mauled him. He has quite the story to tell and the scars to back it up.

No. 9: Raccoon Attacks Baby, Pulls Her From Bed

Any mom would assume that her baby is safe from a wild-animal attack in her own home, but that wasn't the case for four-month old Journi Black.The infant was sleeping peacefully when she was suddenly attacked by a raccoon. The animal dragged her out of her bed and across the room inflicting injuries on her face and head.

No. 8: Watch as Mama Grizzly and Cubs Follow Hiker Down Trail

Few people would be able to remain as calm as Geoffrey Glassner did when he was followed down a trail by a large mama grizzly and her two cubs. He even managed to film the tense encounter. His cool demeanor landed him a spot in my top 10.

No. 7: Young Child Barely Escapes Coyote Attack

Coyotes are becoming a big problem in suburban areas. A 5-year-old Illinois girl was lucky to escape a coyote attack in her front yard. A home security camera captured the close call.

No. 6: Man Laughs Hysterically as Deer Beats Him Up

This one made my top 10 list because it cracks me up. It wouldn't have been so funny had the guy gotten hurt.

For most people, getting attacked by a deer would be no laughing matter. After all, those sharp hooves can do some serious damage. But the man in this video seemed to enjoy getting beaten up by a deer. You can't help but laugh along with him when watching this video.

No. 5: Bear Crashes Through Skylight, Eats Birthday Cupcakes

Talk about a party crasher. A Juneau, Alaska, family got the shock of their lives when a black bear fell through a skylight into the living room, where they were preparing their 1-year-old son's birthday party and proceeded to eat the birthday cupcakes. I've retold this story time and again when the topic of ruined birthday parties or events comes up.

No. 4: Rat Snake Bites Lowes Shopper Between the Eyes

Cabinet shopping is usually a low-risk activity, but a Lowes shopper in Corinth, Mississippi, experienced quite the nightmare when a rat snake launched out of a cabinet, bit him between the eyes and refused to let go. First responders had to cut the snake's head off to remove it from the man's face. This one had to make the list. Imagine shopping with a snake hanging off your face.

No. 3: Texas Woman Killed by Feral Hogs

When an elderly couple's caretaker didn't show up at her scheduled time, the husband stepped outside to look for her and discovered a horrible sight. He found her body in the driveway. According to authorities, Christine Rollins was the victim of an extremely rare attack by a pack of wild hogs. This is definitely the most tragic encounter on the list.

No. 2: First Responders Cut Dead Bear's Head Off to Free Man From Its Grasp

A New Mexico man was walking his dogs when a black bear attacked him. The man managed to shoot the bear as it bit down on him, but the dead bear's mouth locked around his leg. Authorities had to cut the bear's head off to free the man from its grasp.

No. 1: Followed by a Brown Bear, This Is One Calm Kid

This kid's amazing bravery earned him the No. 1 spot on the list.

Few people would be able to remain cool and collected while being followed closely behind by a large brown bear. This kid not only calmly moved away from the bear, he did it with a smile on his face.
