Watch: Alligator’s Mouth Fills With Smoke After Biting Drone

Visitors who harass wildlife in the Everglades can be fined up to $5,000

A group of tourists hoping to get some up-close drone footage of an alligator in the Florida Everglades got quite the smoke show instead.

FlKeysNews.com reports that the tourists were trying to film an alligator known as “George” when it chomped down on the drone and ended up with a mouth full of smoke.

A now viral TikTok video shows the gator jump out of the water and grab the drone. As it bites down on the drone, the gator’s mouth fills with smoke. The smoke plume grows larger and larger until you can no longer see the alligator.

“Oh my God, don’t eat that,” a woman is heard saying in the video. “George no, no.”

“Is it on fire right now?” another woman asks.

At one point, the gator ducks under the water and comes back up with smoke still billowing around it. It ducks again, and the smoke is mostly gone when it resurfaces.

“We gotta get out of here,” the first woman in the recording says.

Many commenters on TikTok have voiced concern for the alligator. Everglades park rangers also commented about the incident on Instagram writing, “Drones and alligators don’t mix.”

They also reminded visitors that harassing wildlife is prohibited in the park and can result in a maximum fine of $5,000. Drones are also prohibited in the park.

It’s not clear if those involved in the incident will face any charges or penalties.
