Watch: Bull Elk Pushes Man Over Rock Wall

There have been numerous elk attacks on people in Estes Park, Colorado

Video footage of a bull elk knocking over a man in Colorado’s Estes Park serves as a warning about the dangers posed by the elk herd that resides in the park.

The footage captured by Eric Burley shows the elk flipping the man over a wall after Burley warned him about the elk.

Burley, who lives in Denver, told the man was not seriously injured. The video shows a woman helping the man up.

On Oct. 31, Burley was visiting the area with his wife. He said all was peaceful until another bull elk approached the alpha bull and his harem.

He knew that the animals needed room, but other tourists didn’t move away, putting themselves in danger.

“The two male elks made eye contact and started showing teeth,” Burley told FTW Outdoors. “That’s when I knew to clear a path between the two and let Mother Nature take its course.

“However the person thought it would be wise to walk right in front of one of the male elks. This person also didn’t listen to my commands to watch out and that’s when the person got attacked.”

You can hear Burley say to the man, “Sir, watch out, watch out!” as the man walks in front of one of the bulls. The elk proceeds to charge, knocking the man over the wall, onto his head and shoulders.

“The person seemed fine, thankfully, but the message here is to respect the space of wildlife and to use common sense,” Burley says.

Visitors to Estes Park often get too close to the resident elk herd, which can lead to an attack, such as this one that we featured here on the Realblog a few years ago.
