The gator hisses at the paddleboarder when she pushes it away with a paddle

A woman paddleboarding at Silver Springs State Park in Ocala, Florida, had a terrifying encounter with a large gator, and she caught it all on camera.

According to CLtampa.com, Vicki Reamy Baker posted footage to her Facebook page showing her fending off the alligator and asking it, “Why are you messing with me? Why are you trying to bite me?”

As the alligator closes in on Baker’s paddleboard, she uses the paddle to push it away. At that point you can hear the alligator hissing at her.

During the encounter, she states, “Someone’s been feeding that gator, makes them very dangerous.”

At one point you can hear a man on a loudspeaker telling Baker to get away from the gator. “Ma’am, I would suggest backing up after you just made him pretty mad.”

Although alligator encounters are scary, the large reptiles rarely attack.

According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, a total of 12 alligator attacks occurred in 2020, and an average of seven unprovoked bites have occurred per year over the last 10 years.
