Q. Are gobble calls more effective at first light, or later in the morning?
A. Thanks for the question Jon. Gobble call effectiveness is based on the kinds of turkeys you're calling. A gobble can bring a hen to your position, and drag a strutter along behind. A gobble can cause a dominant tom to come in and check out the gobbler you're imitating. If it finds a gobbler deke there the real bird might fight the fake. A gobble can cause other male turkeys to shock gobble when used as a locator. A gobble call can also fool a fellow hunter, so always stay alert with safety in mind, especially in areas with heavy hunting pressure. Good luck!
