Try These Recipes This Thanksgiving Day

Cooking wild turkey you've hunted and tagged extends the experience by putting food on your family's table. It adds meaning to Thanksgiving Day.

Realtree's Timber 2 Table blogger Michael Pendley is an avid wild turkey hunter, father of three hunters, and husband to another. He knows his way around a wild game kitchen and is easily one of the top food bloggers in the business. We happen to think he's the best.

"When Realtree’s Scott Hughes mentioned he had a killer turkey soup recipe," Michael Pendley wrote, "I immediately took notice. Soups and stews are a great way to make use of the often overlooked thighs and legs from wild turkeys. While they can be a little tough and stringy, I think the dark meat packs even more flavor than the breast on a wild bird. For the few minutes it takes to skin them out, they are well worth the effort." Amen to that.

"The folks over Seth McGinn’s Can Cooker sent over a Bone Collector edition Can Cooker for us to try out," Timber 2 Table blogger Michael Pendley wrote back in February. "It didn’t take long to figure out that this thing would be an essential part of our camp mess kit."

"I don’t know how things go in your turkey camp," Michael Pendley wrote, "but ours are usually pretty hectic and hurried before we head out in the morning. If we have time for breakfast at all, it probably consists of Pop Tarts or a cheese Danish washed down with scalding hot coffee."

But if a member of his family has killed a bird, they opt for this recipe.

Okay, full disclosure. I love the concept of this dish as much as anything.

While I've stir-fried wild turkey in camps around the country, I've never included some of the ingredients Pendley does here

But I'm not done yet, not even close. And he routinely inspires me to cook in new and unusual ways, along with some classic favorites.
