Jim Casada's Literature Of Turkey Masterpiece

Jim Casada has long been recognized as one of the nation's top writers on turkey hunting, and his passion for the sport encompasses not only the glories of gobblers in the greening-up woods of spring or scattered flocks in the fall. He is an avid student of the sport's history, culture, collectibles and literature, and in his latest book he brings knowledge accumulated in a lifetime of researching and reading about the sport to bear in a "must have" book for those who enjoy armchair adventure as well as cherished moments afield.

"I knew when I undertook a comprehensive bibliography of the sport that the effort would be anything but a best seller," Casada says, "but I was determined to produce a top-quality item which would be 'done right' both in terms of content and quality. My hope is that sportsmen will find that The Literature of Turkey Hunting: An Annotated Bibliography and the Random Scribblings of a Sporting Bibliophile, hits the mark on both counts. I'm delighted with the appearance of both the book and the accompanying slipcase, but its reception by others and contribution to the sport will be the real measures of its merits."

Produced in a limited, numbered, and signed edition of 750 copies, the book has all the hallmarks of a top-drawer collectible. It features Smythe-sewn binding, classy Skivertex material for both the book cover and the slipcase, a ribbon marker, all edges gilt, a gilt engraving of a turkey on the front cover and gold imprinting on the spine, 80-pound stock, a selection of color photographs, and other attributes of a fine book. The book's cover is in a striking blue, nicely offset by the maroon color of the slipcase and ribbon marker.

Casada's book is the latest of several the longtime Editor-at- Large for Turkey & Turkey Hunting magazine and recipient of the National Wild Turkey Federation's 2007 Communicator of the Year award has written or edited on turkey hunting. Altogether he has authored, edited, or contributed to more than 100 books. The Literature of Turkey Hunting contains 580 annotated entries, current prices are given for books dealing exclusively with turkey hunting, there is extensive annotation throughout, and details are provided on matters such as how to judge a book's condition, building a collection, and what the future likely holds in the realm of books on the sport. Noted sporting scribe Jim Spencer contributed the Foreword to the book, and a complete chapter is devoted to Tom Kelly, the recognized literary icon of turkey hunting.
